Portugal's Golden Visa still accepts qualifying venture capital investments — and a growing number of Americans are funding them from their 401(k) or IRA through a self-directed structure. In this session we walk through the exact mechanics, the timeline, and the pitfalls.

The path is well-defined — but there are moving parts. Here's the map.
Step 1
Move existing 401(k)/IRA into a self-directed structure that can hold alternative assets — with a US custodian we can introduce you to.
Step 2
Allocate to a Portuguese CMVM-regulated VC fund that meets Golden Visa criteria. Minimum €500k.
Step 3
With subscription documents and tax ID in hand, submit the ARI application. Legal partner handles the filing.
Step 4
Maintain residency status with just 7 days per year on the ground. At year 5, apply for Portuguese citizenship.

Rolling retirement assets into international investments has tax and legal implications. We walk through the framework in the session — your CPA and immigration counsel handle the specifics.

Erin left Charlotte, NC for Lisbon in 2023 with her husband and kids. She holds the Portuguese Golden Visa and has spent the last two years answering the same questions on Instagram that every American family sends us: schools, healthcare, taxes, banking, the paperwork — and whether the move was worth it.
“I had so many questions before I started. This is the conversation I wish someone had walked me through — before I signed anything.”

Have you already chosen Portugal?
No — the webinar is educational. Many attendees are still exploring whether their 401(k)/IRA balance and other assets add up to a viable path. We help you think about that on the call.
It can be, but it depends on your situation. A properly structured self-directed rollover keeps the investment inside the tax wrapper. We'll walk through the mechanics; your CPA handles your specifics.
The Golden Visa requires just 7 days per year of presence — one of the lowest thresholds in Europe. Many holders keep their US life and use Portugal as a base.
The application covers your spouse, children up to age 26 (in most cases, as students or dependents), and dependent parents. Everyone gets residency together.
Register anyway — everyone who registers receives the replay and the resources for 7 days after the session.
60 minutes that could reshape your family's next decade.
